who knows where it will end?
The village,
or the pine upon the hill?
A lily, blue as the colour of the sky,
says, "Hither, hither!"
But, "Go no further!"
warns a gossamer veil.

Who knows if sad or smiling
it bids a welcome to its guest?
Who konws if suddenly,
in the undergrowth, it dies?
Where this path is beckoning me,
who can tell!
The uncertain path, new every morning,
of every life!
